The Gentry Cinema is now closed.

We want to thank all our friends and customers who have continued to support us over the past year. We've had lots of fun, but the time has come for us to say goodbye. I've accepted a new job working for the federal government in another state. It's a great opportunity for us and we can't pass it up.

The Gentry has been a modest success since it's opening. The business made some money, but we spent more than expected to remodel and re-open the place. Since it takes a few years to establish a new business, and we were left with little cash reserves to cover the slow periods, the result is that we are now offering the Gentry for sale and moving on. It will be a great opportunity for someone else to pick up where we left off, especially if they have a love for the movie business, or if they just love being around happy customers. This truly is a fun business.

This also could be an opportunity here for a community organization or a non-profit organization to provide the community with a much needed service. With the proper tax advantages the Gentry would be an even more viable operation, virtually sealing its destiny as a long term community destination. The Gentry Cinema was twinned and renovated in 2008. All new: facade and building exterior, windows and doors, plumbing, restrooms, electrical system, heat and air system (including ductwork), fire sprinkler system, insulation in attic and walls, marquee, draperies, screens, sound. Replaced and upgraded projection equipment. New concession counter with enough equipment to start a small restaurant. Old seats were replaced with modern lumbar supported types with cupholders.

We were showing first run films. The theater is located in a market area of 20,000 people and is the only theater in McIntosh county. Competition is over 20 miles away.

Checotah is the largest city in the county and boasts a new Wal-Mart Super Center. Lake Eufaula is only a few miles away. It has great fishing and water facilities, and draws lots of vacationers.

We are asking $285,000 which includes real estate and equipment. This is a real turnkey operation.
